WOWEE has been staging live, exotic animal programs for kids in a six county area for over ten years.  Our programs are always enthusiastically received by kids of all ages.

WOWEE conducts outreach programs at any appropriate venue or organization ( Ex: schools, scouts, birthday and corporate events).  Consider WOWEE for your public relations/fundraising events.

PROGRAMS

1.      UNCONVENTIONAL CRITTERS

This is our standard program featuring a variety of reptiles, birds and mammals.  You might meet Julius Squeezer, our 7 foot albino Burmese Python, Tora, our binturong and Sunkist, our Moluccan cockatoo.   Each animal is introduced by name.  Personal history is presented, followed by discussion of species, habitat, diet and other points of interest.  Our audience sees the results of the care we give our animals when they see them interact with us.  We weave in lessons on personal responsibility, commitment, love and respect, consequences of our choices.  We talk about the fact that most of these animals, appealing as they are, DO NOT make good pets and outline some of the reasons that they don’t.  We try to demonstrate positive values throughout our program.

2.      SHELLS, SKIN AND SCALES

Snakes, alligator, tortoises, turtles, frogs – reptiles and amphibians are presented and characteristics of each discussed.  Do constrictors have teeth?  What is the difference between an alligator and a crocodile?  How many species of snakes are there in the world?  We will answer these questions and many more.

3.      TINY GLOVER with SHELLS, SKIN AND SCALES

This will be very similar to the program Tiny has performed with Tom Hudak for some years.  Tiny will do about 45 minutes of stories about reptiles, amphibians and insects.  WOWEE then presents up to three work shops (which are really our regular presentations with a little more hands on than usual).

4.      THREATENED & ENDANGERED

We have a large variety of animals that fall into this category.  We have a breeding colony of binturongs, a highly endangered animal.  I would tell you what a binturong is like, but they aren’t like anything else.  It is a lucky experience when you get to see a binturong up close and personal.    We also breed cotton top tamarins which are the most endangered of the small monkeys.  Boo is our ambassador from the cat family, a male serval cat.  He looks like a small Cheetah and shares the cheetah’s habitat and behaviors on a smaller scale, too.  The serval is another endangered species bred at our facility.  We include our alligator in this program as an example of an animal who was endangered and who has made a spectacular come back through the actions taken by humans on their behalf.  This is a valuable lesson in what humans can do and undo.

5.      RAINFOREST WILDLIFE

Many of our animals are native to the rainforests of the world.  The blue and gold macaw, cotton top tamarin, common marmoset, and boa constrictor, are some examples.  They and we are all being negatively affected by the destruction of their rainforest home.  As we talk about each of our animals, we stress that they are domestically bred but their brethren in the wild are endangered by loss of habitat.  In fact, loss of habitat is the most critical problem to the wildlife of the world.     We talk about what this means and mention some things that the students themselves can do to conserve our home, planet earth.

6.      HOWLING AT THE MOON w/Native American Storyteller  (75 to 90 Minutes)

This program is appropriate for older students and adults.

This is a five part program focused exclusively on wolves.  The speaker is accompanied by a slide show.  The program will consist of the following elements:

  • General information on wolves, their habits and habitats.

  • Native stories and legends as related by gifted Native American story teller, Perry Ground.

  • The wolves’ place in the ecosystem and the impact of removing and then re-introducing this major predator to an area as demonstrated by the wolves released in Yellowstone National Park.

  • Wolves coming back into New York State and the common myths about wolves that engender needless fears.

  • The Great WOWEE wolf rescue of 2007 and a live introduction to Nellie and Juno, the WOWEE wolf ambassadors.

7.      WOLF PROGRAM w/o guest speaker (60 minutes)

This will be the same program without the story telling

8.      WOLF PROGRAM for Young Audiences (45 minutes)***

This program features a slide show about dogs and wolves.  Part I is about dogs, Part II is a live introduction to one or some of the dogs we talk about.  Part III is the second part of the slide show which is about wolves, how they differ from dogs, how they live in the wild and their unique spot in the ecosystem.  Part IV is a live introduction to the Wolves of WOWEE with Q & A period.

9.      WOLF PROGRAM for Young Audiences w/ story teller (two segments of 20 to 25 minutes each)***

This program features stories as told by Tiny Glover about wolves and some of the mystery that surrounds them.  The program concludes with a live introduction to the wolves of WOWEE, some general information about wolves and a Q & A period.

***These two programs can be fleshed out more for longer sessions if requested.

10.  ANIMALS AROUND THE WORLD w/ Tiny Glover (Tiny is not ready with this yet)

Tiny Glover, local performance artist and educator tells 40 to 45 minutes of engaging stories about various animals.  When the stories are told and done, WOWEE brings the live versions of the story book characters onto the stage and relates personal history about that specific animal and then general information about the species, wild habitat and history.  This program combines arts and literature with cultural aspects and natural sciences in a way that is both entertaining and educational.  Tiny collects stories from all over the world and from all cultures.

11.  ANIMALS AROUND THE WORLD 2 – w/Tiny Glover (not ready yet)

Same program as above but with different stories and different animals.

12.  CUTE & CUDDLY CRITTERS

This program features a collection of small, furry critters to whom younger children can relate – bunnies, chinchillas and others.  If the group is small enough, the children may be allowed to pet some of these lovable little critters.  This is a show and tell program, mostly show.

Tiny Glover as comedy MC.  The basic idea is for Tiny to work up a comedy routine that will fit into MC duties for any of our programs – opening, introductions of each animal, and ending (Sally closes with a statement about our purpose)  Tiny is not ready yet.
